Dossi and friends... (Updated: 9th May 1999)

Update: I met Dossi at a cafe in Mosfellsbaer, where he was hanging out with a Halrey rider friend of his... Coincedentally, I had my digital camera with me (I tell you, when the sun is out, here, one can meet just about every Intruder 1500 rider!) and would like to represent Dossi with the pictures I took of him and his Harley pal (sorry I can't recall his name at the moment, I do know he is on a 3 million krona Harley (that's USD $42857 (remember 99% of that is customs and taxes)).

Dossi's Ride
Check out the custom goodies on that baby!

Dossi has really let loose with the customising on that beauty! Click the small pictures to see the full size versions. Loosely, from what I have seen, he's got a front fender, wind screen with lowers, rigid bags with sissy bar and rigid sissy bar bag. He's also got the freeway bars from Suzuki...

Please note: These pictures were taken while riding my Intruder1500, with one hand, at 100 km/hour, with the digital camera dangling down between shots, as I tried to keep up with them... Phew! This is something I am (most likely) NOT going to do again, so please enjoy these shots all the more!

Soon we were en route towards the capital at about 100 km/hour. Two Suzuki Intruder 1500s and a Harley Davidson. Good company for sure... If asked about the wisdom of taking a picture while riding a motorcycle at 100 km/hour I'd say: "I wouldn't do it again in a hurry, that's for sure... But the pictures begged to be taken!!!"

On arrival in Reykjavik, the Harley having waved it's farewells on the way... Who should we meet up with, but, Saemundur! On his yellow and cream 1500. He of course had to join us and stopped traffic as he made a 3 point turn on one of the busiest main streets in Reykjavik... for those who know, it's the one beside the lake in the city center!

Waiting for green...

Time for a short chat...

What do motorcycle riders chat about at traffic lights? Women? Money matters? Philosophy? Yes, all these things are discussed when waiting for the traffic lights to turn green. This is a good time to let your imagination loose and wonder what they really were discussing...

Keeper's Note: Who is Dossi? Well, in a way he's one of the reasons I put this page up. He's the guy who was on the Intruder that pulled up next to my Honda Shadow, way back in 1998 (like, wow, long ago, dude!)... and inspired me to get an Intruder 1500 for myself. Great eh? Ok, but WHO is he?

Dossi is the nickname of one of the keepers of the Blue Mountain Skiing resort, here in Iceland... It's a place which is very popular in winter... but what a lot of people DON'T know... Is that, in summer, because there is no skiing... The road up there is a DREAM to ride! No traffic, long and winding roads, scenery you could die for... It's my favorite ride of all time and I go there every summer... at least twice.

Keeper's Note 2: Would you like the whole story?

... Well, I was hanging around downtown Reykjavik (Iceland), at a certain square all us biker folks, up here, hang out at, minding my own business (as it should be)... When, down the main street rolls what looks like a great big, new, quiet Harley... and parks right beside my Shadow... and my bike, the pride of the square (even the cops admired it!), fell in the "shadow" of this awesome, wide, spectacle... and I was ALMOST envious... Then I remembered all my old Harley woes, and smiled to myself knowing I was on a secure, problem free black beast myself... Then I casually glanced at the tank logo... It did not look like a Harley mark... and I got curious...

Revelations

Dossi was quite friendly, I guess it goes with the name. He is called the same as me, only the nickname is different! Anyway... "Suzuki Intruder" it said on the tank... Never! WOW! So, no Harley woes, like outdated technology, oil leaks, mechanic intimidation resutling in inflated prices (if you're stupid enough to own a Harley, here, your'e stupid enough to pay the high price they charge for maintaining them!), and reasonably priced at 1.4 million Iceland (that's about $19000). A new FatBoy (HD) costs over 2 million here... 99.5% of that is nothing but customs duties!!!! (Fucking governement motherfuckers!) I just thought I'd stick that in there, they obviously stuck something in people when they buy their motorcycles up here, so I guess they deserve it back... Anyway... Lets not get too involved, here, keep this pleasant... and all that. *sigh* What can we little people do anyway?

Was it to be?

Suddenly, my beloved black baby was like a pet... and he had the monster!!! A monster I wanted! I was no longer the coolest dude in town... There was a new breed of warriors in town... I had seen the Royal Stars, they were just out of my price range, at 1.8 million... I would only get about 600000 kr. ($9000) for my Shadow... So was it out of the question?...

I guess you can check out my biking history for the rest of MY story (TheStone Home Page (and choose Bike History))...
