Greetings, I like "Red" thats her name. She was green and black on the show room floor but that has changed. The last Harley was a 1982 Wide Glide, a nice ride. I guess I'm just old fashioned but I think they sold out in April '84 when they came out with the Evo. Would always make sure I had an extra $ 1,000 in the bank when I went on long trips. Used it in Provo Utah last trip to Mexico when the back cylinder burned a hole in the piston. Yes they are expensive to keep. Enough iron talk.

I had the squealing problem with both of the brakes but the dealer was real good on working it out. Tried two shims in each caliper but the brake seemed weak. we took the outer ones out and it was still quiet and worked OK. They have the same brakes as the littler Suzukis but weigh 200 lbs more.

Got Cobra tapered pipes and they are OK but I'm looking for something better. Maybe the european zsuke is jetted better, but the US model is way lean. Popped and afterfired pretty badly. Also back fired once and blew the carbs loose. Rejetted with the Dynajet kit and reset the float level down 1 mm. Helped a lot. Still has a nice rumble on throttle roll off but doesn't pop like it did.

The H-D crash bar is really easy and looks great. Haven't seen the Cobra bar. In fact I've got the only 1500 in town so there is nothing to compare it with accessory-wise. I ride with some ACE riders and the zuke out looks them stone cold. Put medium ape bars on, that's as far as the stock controls will allow and it is just right for that lay back feel on the road. The windscreen and lowers are ftrom Rifle. Tha bags are Spiders den.

Wish someone made a set of low pipes so it could run bigger bags though. The "air cleaner is a H-D with a ball milled insert. Moved the horn out of the V and in a early H-D housing. I made an adapter and put a billet front brake ewsorvoir with steel braid line. If you can't hide it, chrome it. The chrome battery cover and turn signal visors are classy but some of the other stuff is gaudy. I went with ball milled goodies and an Indian motif, conchos and front fender light. Lots of Harley stuff but thats where the available accessories are.

The Zuke 90 cube motor has lots of guts and a flat power curve that gets along right smartly when ya' twist on the throttle. My other bike right now is a 1994 Honda Magna. It's terribly fast but I just like the Zuke "90" so much better so it hardly gets ridden any more.

I've wandered on now, but I think the point is: I like the bike!

A HISTORY LESSON

Got the 1500 in June. A rather large Japanese cruiser with potential. At least the rear wheel fit in the huge fender unlike of the other cruisers in it's class. Too new to have much out for it yet, but still great potential. Put 1,000 miles on it to break it in and added Cobra exhaust and a windshield with lowers from Rifle. Now was the time to take off. A long ride to Reno NV and back and the seat had to go. Corbin makes a wonderful two up touring seat with a v-bar and back rest, so it went on. A much better ride . I like to paint my scoots to make them mine and this big mother called for something to really catch the eye and 1964 Porche India red would do the trick. Debadged and shot in about a week. The COYOTE logo was added to the side covers. Looking closer to the goal.

It was now time to accessorize! Saddlebags, tool pouch and custom mount windshield bags went on after installing the OEM saddlebag mounting rails. The bags are solid mounted to the bike and rails and a 14 inch tool pouch hangs on the front. Ten indian head conhoes from Montana Silversmiths replaced the originals. An Indian head chrome front fender light was adapted and a tombstone tail light replaced the overly large original. A custom made stainless steel bracket with an atitude mounts the rear mud flap. A chrome nose went on the front fender to match.

If ya' can't hide it, chrome it, right. The rear brake reservior on the front frame tube was replaced with a biilet unit and braided steel hose. The horn moved down out of the V and resides in a old style slotted grill and housing made from a coffee pot lid. No that wasn't a bolt on. The " air cleaner " on the right side was replaced with one from another brand with an insert. An air compressor is located under the cover now with the horns under the right side of the false tank. Trust me, it gets attention one way or the other.

A Harley dresser crash bar fit nicely up front and Iso-pegs for the long runs mount on it. But now the left side looked long and awfully bare. So I took a ProLine derby cover and grafted it into the back cover on that side. Easy to say but probably the most difficult job to get just right.

Chrome brake and clutch resorvoir covers and leather lever and grip covers sit on the 12 inch rise ape hanger handle bars. To top them off are a set of original Arlyn Ness billet mirrors. I run a set of black splash guards for the winter but they will come back off next spring. Lots of leather ties ans fring just for the fun of it.

Rejetted the carbs. Still wasn't happy with the exhaust. On the third try I came up with the turn down drag pipes on the bike now. They have baffles inside to take the edge off the growl. And it does growl as it runs up through the gears.

If anything more is done it will be a larger set of bags from Spider Den, now that the pipes clear. It has been a six month project that ran way over budget but when someone on the curb says " nice bike, what is it? " it somehow feels all worthwhile.
